Why I Started This Company

I'm Anthony Caracappa. I started DC Tree Cutting and Land Service at the end of December 2022 because I'd spent enough years working for other people's tree companies to know exactly how I'd run my own. I came from both sides of the business: office and field, marketing and crew management, starting in 2014 with a tree service in Queens, NY. I also spent a full career in internet startups before that. The combination gives me a different lens on this industry than most owners have.

The short version of why I started: I watched shortcuts that put crew members and property in jeopardy at previous employers, and I left knowing I'd never run a crew that way. DC Tree Cutting exists because I wanted to build a tree service where the insurance is real, the crew is paid fairly, and the customer gets the outcome they actually need, not just a tree cut down and a bill.

We run out of Rocky Mount (HQ) and Goldsboro (yard), covering nine counties across Eastern NC. I'm in the office most days handling operations, scheduling, and customer conversations. I'm not a climber. I run the business that pays the climbers, sets the standards they work to, and stands behind the work after we leave. Read the full story here.

Why We Cost More

If you call around, you will find cheaper. I'm fine with that. Our pricing covers what it actually costs to do this job legally and safely: a trained crew paid above the regional average, maintained equipment, and three insurance policies (general liability, workers' compensation, and commercial auto) that actually pay out if something goes wrong on your property. Companies quoting 40% less are cutting something, and usually it's the workers comp you'd want them to have if a climber falls out of your tree.
